NORTHENDEN’S new lady captain Judith Snell (pictured) has a trip to South America to thank for introducing her to golf.
She had deliberately avoided itf for the bulk of a sporting life which had seen her excel at hockey and tennis.
It was only on a trip to Venezuela just over seven years ago that she reluctantly began playing golf, and since then her handicap has dropped to 15.5.
Her playing successes include the presidents prize, the Serendipity Cup, the singles knockout and the 36-hole Jubilee Cup.
Her chosen charity will be Francis House, Didsbury, with a St George’s day function at Northenden on April 13 acting as one fundraising event.
She is also looking forward to partnering Northenden captain Ian Hynes in the Manchester Alliance Archie Preston KO Trophy and the Mersey Bowl.
Northenden’s men played a betterball Stableford and L Duty and Ian McIvor won a cpo on 33 points from Lee Turner and V Walsh.
Chorlton’s men played in the Wednesday Handicap Cup qualifier, and in division one, Roger Mansell led in with 35 points.
Norman Quick was top of division two with 35 points and Eric Whittaker led in division three with 31 points.
Withington’s Winter League has reached its midpoint and two teams are top of the shop with 198 points with the trio of David Cedarholme, Gregor Dobbie and John Gill locked with John Bush, Matt Hughes and John Wills.
Didsbury’s men played a double shotgun betterball Stableford and the am top guns were Mike Cocker and Keith Allan with 38 points.
In the pm competition Mike Black and Chas McPeake won a cpo on 38 points from Gary Guerrieria and Kevin O’Brien
The draw has been made for the Manchester and District Ladies Golf Association’s Bell Cup.
Didsbury have a bye into the last 64 where they host Bramall Park, Chorlton are at Vale Royal Abbey in the preliminary round and Withington visit Manchester in round one.
