DIDSBURY Northern men’s first team continued their league assault with a comprehensive 4-0 away victory at strugglers Northop Hall.

After a slow start Didsbury opened their account with a good run from Dorian Jordan setting up Paul Misselbrook to volley home from close range.

This was soon doubled when an incisive move involving Ian Brown and Simon Darlington set up Danny Hughes with a simple diving tap in at the far post.

Northop, with a change in formation and the wind at their backs, started strongly in the second half but the defence were equal to the task with Hugh Molloy particularly strong.

Didsbury still continued to create chances and Brandon Fernandez set up Richard Hayward to finish with a high shot in the net.

It was soon 4-0 when Danny Hughes found Chris Hay lurking in space for a simple chance.

Despite more pressure from Northop Hall and a series of penalty corners, keeper Brian Boardman was in good form and ensured Didsbury would have the win and the first clean sheet of the season.

The ladies’ first team were beaten 5-1 when they hosted Kendal at the weekend.

The visitors established a 2-0 lead by half-time, adding another three second-half goals for good measure.

Northern’s consolation goal came when a good team move was finished off by Emily Ambrose.

However, there was success for the fifth team as they recorded a 3-0 victory against their Manchester University counterparts.

They opened the scoring early with goals from Jenny Hughes and Billie Hall in the first 10 minutes.

The University came back strongly and denied Didsbury any more scoring opportunities until the second half when Louise Bailey converted a penalty corner to finish the game off.
