BROUGHTON Park’s brave bid to overcome National League side Caldy in the National Trophy ended with them suffering a 32-0 defeat.
Having gone into the game without any experienced back rowers, Park were unable to add another side to their list of scalps.
Although the possession was shared equally, Park lacked the finishing power that would have converted their opportunities into points.
Park’s seconds were 57-5 winners over Whitchurch, the thirds beat Winnington Park 26-19, while the fourths lost 17-10 to Bury.
Didsbury Toc H were 42-6 winners when they entertained Ashton.
Starting with fierce determination, they went ahead when an error from the visitors enabled Dylan Williams to kick a penalty.
Dave Hoare twice touched down in the corner for Toc H, only for them to allow Ashton onto the scoreboard with two penalties.
Andrew Popoola’s converted try put Toc H 20-6 ahead at the break, after which Hoare, Popoola and Paul Riley went over with Williams adding another penalty.
Elsewhere, Toc H’s seconds won 27-20 against Wirral, the fourths lost 37-0 to Sale FC, Burnage thirds lost 17-3 at Heaton Moor, the fourths beat Buxton 38-12, while there were wins for Old Bedians’ seconds and thirds against Littleborough (33-13) and Crewe and Nantwich (77-5) respectively.
