A FULL field of competitors enjoyed a fabulous course when they took part in the first WGTB Mixed Pairs competition of the season at Hazel Grove.
On offer to the winners was a golfing break for four to Menorca’s Son Parc Golf Club, a prize claimed by Northenden’s Graham Culpan and Anne Croasdale with their 43-pointer.
On hand to follow the proceedings and hand out the prizes was Hugh Brown of Bramhall Golf Club, the owner of Son Parc.
A few days previously, Northenden one-handicapper Dave Nelson had won the coveted Mersey championship for the third time at his own course.
Left-hander Dave posted rounds of 76+71=147 to finish six shots clear of Mersey Championship record holder Phil Bolton of Chorlton.
The best nett under-nine handicap winner was Sale’s R Foley (145) and the over-nine handicap was won by Didsbury junior Haydn McCullen (151).
The best pm gross was taken by Didsbury’s Phil Vokes (77) and the top pm nett prize went to Withington’s S Chaudhry (72).
The Mersey seniors were in action at Didsbury where home player Dave McGovern led in with 40.
Top classical musician Jeff Brothwell was blowing his trumpet again after winning the Frank Marsh Cup at Didsbury.
He posted a superb 63 off his four handicap to take division one while Phil Slater went clickety click to win division two.
Mike Serrage won division three with 65, the best gross of 73 came from Steve Walton, with Ron Dixon as top vet with 68.
Didsbury ladies played their fourth LGU and Centenary Salver and lady captain Kate Jones led from the front with 73 while Jane Steel was also a clear winner in division two with 71.
Didsbury juniors played their June medal and in a cpo on 68 George Crawshawe led in from Haydn McCullen and Jack Barber.
The Starkey Salver at Withington saw M Callaghan and A Dunn on top with 44 points.
C Greenfield and P McCaughry will have to play off for the First President’s Cup at Northenden after finishing level on 67.
