Moss Side spot on for a final fling

Moss Side claimed a place in the Manchester County Sunday Shield – but it took a penalty shootout success to get them there.

They finally saw off Ordsall FC 2-1 in the spot-kick decider after the game finished 3-3 to set up a showdown with Light Oaks from Salford.

The first half ended 0-0 but Moss Side took the initiative after the break and hit Ordsall with a goal from Levi Kennedy.

Five minutes later Robert Kinsella made it 2-0 and Moss Side were cruising with it looking unlikely they would concede a goal.

But Ordsall had other plans and converted a penalty to make it 2-1 and three minutes later equalised.

Five minutes from time the hosts completed their comeback to go into a 3-2 lead.

But Moss Side had Kinsella to thank after he scored a last-gasp equaliser to take the game to penalties.

In the shoot-out, successful kicks from Kennedy and John Murphy were enough to send Moss Side through to the final on Friday, March 30 at Sportcity (7.30pm).
