A NERVY 3-2 win over bottom side Whitwoth Valley edged Gregorians nearer to lifting the Manchester League Premier Division title.

While they made hard work of defeating the division’s basement side, previous leaders Irlam MS were going down to defeat, as were another top team in the shape of Hollinwood.

In the end, Gregs they had to rely on an own goal to add to earlier strikes from Curtis Braithwaite and Keenan Ratclyffe to secure the win.

Another team in great form are Royton Town who are now just two points behind Gregs and present the biggest threat to their title hopes, along with Wigan Robin Park.

Gregs’ seconds could only fire blanks in a 3-0 defeat by Elton Vale, but their A team remained second in division three after a 3-2 win over Hollinwood’s reserves, secured by goals from Danny Nelson (two) and Carlos Lawton.

Wythenshawe Amateurs’ game against Stocksport Georgians was a victim of the weather, but the seconds bounced back to form with a 5-1 walloping of Georgians.

In division one, Manchester Juniors picked up a useful point in a 1-1 draw against Stand Athletic.

West Didsbury and Chorlton only had one team in action as their A team lost to the only goal of the game with Chapel.
