SOUTH West Manchester’s hopes of moving into the Manchester Association Premier Division title race were hit as they lost in disappointing fashion against Newton Heath.
They were left to chase a moderate target after dismissing their visitors for 134.
Najeeb Ahmad made excellent use of helpful conditions for his accurate seam bowling, taking 5-29.
Khalid Mahmood (3-50) and Raj Sivakumar (2-30) then offered good support as Heath were dismissed for 134.
It needed a steady hand at the tiller as South West had plenty of time to reach their target.
However, the major innings they needed was not forthcoming as wickets fell at regular intervals.
Gogna (23), Khalid Mahmood (20) and Shahid (15) were the only batters reaching double figures as South West were shot out for a meagre 89.
There were no problems for South West’s seconds at Lostock as they chased a target of 151-8.
Ian Larkins’ marathon spell produced excellent figures of 5-60 to keep the hosts in check.
Haroon and Graham Turner then dominated with the bat for South West after they had struggled to 80-5.
Haroon finished on 56 not out and Turner was unbeaten on 35 as South West eased to a victory that keeps them in the front runners.
Whalley Range could not apply the killer touch against Winton.
Batting first, Range were all out for 154 with Vilas Kutty top-scoring on 54, his best support coming from Neil Cusick (19) and Aftab Younis (30).
In the field, Range bowled with great purpose and were soon into the Winton batsmen with Niroj Vasani (4-23) and Manoj Xavier (2-38) doing the damage to leave Winton hanging on for a draw at 129-8.
Range’s seconds had an easy win as they entertained Bolton Indians.
Mark Greenwood (3-26) and Shaheen Sarfraz (3-17) were the main men for Range as the Indians were all out for 97.
Mike Fenton (21), Ahmed (17), Mark Davis (17 not out) and Aftab (13 not out) then saw Range home with plenty to spare.
In division one, Wythenshawe got back on track following defeat the week before.
Facing Lostock, Wythenshawe batted first in bowler-friendly conditions and applied themselves well before being dismissed for 150.
Aaron McCall (31), Paul Burrell (27) and Ian Jones (27) helped them to that total, only for Lostock to look well set in reply after reaching 70-2.
However, the wheels began to fall off at that point as they were reduced to 87-8 before being dismissed for 90.
Colin Crowther (4-31), Martin Leonard (3-32) and McCall (3-38) shared the wickets around for Wythenshawe, whose seconds’ game at Newton Heath called off because of a waterlogged playing surface.
