DIDSBURY CC were able to celebrate their 150th anniversary with two winners’ trophies at the end of the Cheshire County League season.

The first team faced an Upton side level on points with them at the top of the division one table, but unable to cope with Didsbury’s positive cricket.

Batting first, Didsbury aimed for quick runs to set up a declaration and they duly obliged, compiling 187-6 from 42 overs as Paul Brierley top-scored with 53.

With 58 overs to bowl, Didsbury saw the Upton top order dig in defiantly against the opening attack.

However, wickets began to fall regularly with Peter Manser taking 3-25 and Stuart Stoneman 5-20 as Upton were all out for 56, taking 46 overs to make that score.

Didsbury’s seconds completed the double with a 69-run win over Toft, dismissing them for 120 having earlier made 189-4, Trevor Gane with 73.

However, Burnage were not in action as their division two encounter against Winnington Park was abandoned because of a waterlogged outfield.

Last weekend’s matches in the Manchester Association Premier Division saw South West Manchester have the better of a drawn game against Swinton Moorside.

Batting first, South West were in trouble at 20-4 before they were pulled out of the mire by Ali Khan (40 not out) and Adil Javed (35), taking them to 141-9.

South West skipper Najeeb Ahmad maintained his form with the ball, taking 7-35 to leave Swinton hanging on at 110-9 at the close.

The seconds beat Swinton in the reverse fixture, Adam Watkins taking 5-44 as Swinton were all out for 173 before hitting an unbeaten 62 as South West won by eight wickets.

A rain-reduced game saw Whalley Range struggle to 102-6 at Bury where the hosts had earlier compiled 121-7.

Only Zarrar Malik (31) and Vilas Cutty (28 not out) looked on form with the bat for Range who had earlier seen Cutty take 3-24 and Neil Cusick 3-18.

The news was not so good for Wythenshawe whose slim hopes of avoiding the drop were dealt another blow with a 40-run defeat at Stretford.

Colin Crowther had bowled superbly to take 7-65 as Stretford set Wythenshawe an achievable target of 150-9.

Once again though, it was the batting that let Wythenshawe down as they were all out for 110.

Leigh Sproston (34) and Craig McCoy (20) had given them hope, but golden ducks for Chris Miller and Chris canning set the alarm bells ringing before Wythenshawe eventually subsided to a disappointing total.
