Grants of up to £200 are available for people in south Manchester who want to get to know their neighbours better.

The money is available as part of 2010's Neighbours Day, which encourages people to get together with those living on their street.

Last year, 159 residents' groups were given council funds to hold barbeques, street parties and other events.

This year the funding is again available for events taking place on or around Friday, May 28.

Councillor Val Stevens, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: "We had fantastic feedback from residents last year about how Neighbours’ Day got people together at street parties, barbecues and planting and clean up days.

"Everyone had a good time in 2009, and we hope residents will be even more keen to get behind it this year.We know how much communities put into making Manchester a place to be proud of and so we’re delighted to support this again."
