Chorlton Leisure Centre is the latest facility to be given a face-lift as part of a city-wide programme of improvements across indoor leisure facilities in Manchester.
The makeover has included an upgrade to the squash courts, refurbishment of the health and fitness suite, and a new filtration system for the pool. Essential repairs and replacements were also completed to internal lighting and the building’s roof system.
The work cost £180,000, paid for by Manchester City Council and Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust .
Councillor Mike Amesbury, executive member for culture and leisure at Manchester City Council said: ‘‘Chorlton Leisure Centre is the latest facility to benefit from our investment strategy, which has seen over £820,000 worth of improvements made at indoor leisure centres right across Manchester in the last eighteen months.
"This is part of our commitment to improving sports facilities for our local communities .
"Manchester City Council will continue to work with its partners not only to improve the facilities but also access to them by continuing to offer initiatives such as free swimming to those aged 16 and under and the over-60s, in all our pools, as part of this wider aim."
Rebecca Livesey, interim chief executive of Manchester Sport & Leisure Trust, said: ‘’Our strong partnership with the council allows us to maximise the investment opportunities available in making improvements at each facility and to hear that Manchester residents’ satisfaction with sport provision has increased is great news.
"However, we are not being complacent about this and we are currently consulting with all of our communities, gathering people’s opinions on the full range of indoor leisure facilities and activities."
