Mancunian Expats - try our map!

ARE you a former resident of south Manchester who has moved abroad and who wants to get back in touch with people still living in the town? Do you know of friends or family who have moved overseas and you want to try and track them down? Well here's your chance with our new interactive map ...

In this section, we're giving an opportunity for people who were parted when locals decided to make new lives overseas to make contact once again.

If you are an ex-pat, who wants to know the whereabouts of a pal or relative, send us the details and we'll post them up here. The same is true of locals - let us know if you want to get back in touch with a local who has left these shores. You never know - they might just visit this site, read your message and you could be reunited.

Alternatively, ex-pats can write to us simply if they want to let the folks back home know what they've been up to, how life overseas is treating them, and what they miss about south Manchester.

All you have to do to take advantage of this service is to click here to go to our interactive map of the world , then click on the part of the map where you live. Your own pinpoint will appear which you can move to the exact location you want (use the controls on the top-right of the map to move around and to zoom in and out, right down to street level).

A form will also appear which will allow you to give your name, contact details, reason for moving and anything else you want to share with us.

Please note - this information will appear live on the site immediately and is not moderated. If you feel that somebody is abusing this map service, please click here to e-mail the web editor.

I went to Haverley Hey School and I hear it is celebrating its 70th anniversary. I have a photo of the Standard Four girls wearing dresses we made by hand! Does anyone remember making those dresses? I thought I'd never finish sewing the belt! E-mail: dss8888@aol.com

I and my family left England for Australia in 1968. I spent my life up to the age of 22 in Brownley Green and Crossacres. Went to school at Brownley Green, then Manchester Central High. Worked at Alexandra Park, RAF, Brooke Bond Tea, Craigs Pantry, Proctor and Gamble. Would like to hear from anybody who remembers me. I wasn't a very memorable person!! I lived on Saintsbridge Road in the 50's & 60's. Moved to Canada in 1972. My wife and I live in a beautiful but remote area on the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario, 4 hours north of Toronto. Black bears come up to the house and walk around the deck to look in the windows and we hear wolves howling at night. Bit different from Woodhouse Park. Returning to Manchester the last week of August/05. Looking forward to steak & kidney pudding, egg custards and Indian curry. I see in your on-line news that Haveley Hey is still operating as a school - I scored a diving header there while playing for Poundswich Junior in 1956 (my best goal ever) plus attended HH for one year in 1952. If anyone remembers me and wants to get in touch it would be great.

I was brought up in Upper Lloyd Street along side Maine Road Football Ground. Are there any of my old school mates from Heald Place School around, I would like to catch up with them in April 2006 when we come back for a visit.
I left Manchester in 1960 as a ten pound tourist to Australia.

As an ex Burnage boy I have set up Burnage Heritage to encourage residents and ex residents to record their memories and photos of the area. We are building up a Burnage Archive.
We have produced six Burnage Miscellanies which consist of short articles and photos. We have also produced a number of larger booklets details of which can be seen on our website http://uk.geocities.com/burnageheritage
Our latest publication is CARRY ON BURNAGE the second volume of wartime memories which demonstrates hope Burnage residents continued to live their normal lives despite wartime restrictions.
We would welcome contributions of memories and photos. We are planning a third volume on experiences of Burnage servicemen during the war and particularly memories of those who died.

Would love to hear from Janice McGrail or Val Woods. Sure they've been married a long time, but would love hearing from anyone else who may remember me or I went to school with.
