AN Irlam football club is putting to shame the professional superstars who spoilt the World Cup with their win at all costs approach.
For while the world elite did their invisible sniper routines and demanded red cards for opposing players in Germany, Irlam Rangers JFC have been recognised for their efforts in promoting fair play and friendly football.
The club picked up a trio of fair play awards at the Timperley and District Junior Football League awards night.
Team fair play awards were handed out to the club's under-eights Rangers and under-nines sides. And under-eights player Georgia Kemp won the league's individual fair play prize.
Phil Kemp, head of sports development at Irlam Rangers, said: "When you have other teams who vote you into this position it is a very proud moment for the entire club.
"At Irlam Rangers we are all one big family and we would like to thank all of our players, parents and guardians for their fantastic achievement."
The club, which boasts 12 teams with the age range of under-fives to under-16s, has always adopted a fun and friendly approach to their football. The coaches insist that the game is played in the right spirit with players shaking hands at the end of every match.
