Struggling City

MANAGERLESS Salford City are hoping the New Year brings about a change in fortunes at the Moor Lane club.

They are cut eight points adrift at the foot of the UniBond Football League First Division North table after losing their Boxing Day derby battle at Trafford 5-2.

Salford showed a lot of fighting spirit to reduce their arrears to 3-2 with quick-fire goals from Lathan Forrester, who chipped Trafford’s goalkeeper, and Steve Brackenridge, who crashed home a stunning free kick.

But second half goals from Chris Mackay, who completed a brace, and Scott Metcalfe gave mid-table Trafford a deserved victory.

Scott Barlow, the division’s leading goal scorer, had earlier netted twice for Trafford.

City host fellow strugglers Radcliffe Borough today, Thursday, January 1, kick-off 3pm, but they have no game at the weekend.
