Hoy up for BBC gong

OLYMPIC hero Chris Hoy is one of 10 British sports stars to have been nominated for the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The winner will be unveiled in a televised Liverpool Echo Arena show on Sunday, December 14.

Hoy, who is from Scotland but lives in Salford Quays, won three cycling gold medals at this year’s Beijing Olympics and is widely believed to be one of the favourites for the BBC award.

His competition comes from fellow cyclists Nicole Cooke, Rebecca Romero and Bradley Wiggins plus swimmer Rebecca Adlington, sailor Ben Ainslie, 400 metres runner Christine Ohuruogu, Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, boxer Joe Calzaghe and tennis star Andy Murray.
