Boxers have got the Edge

REBECCA Edge was the star of the show as Walkden Thai boxers made a mighty mark at a tournament in St Helens.

Rebecca, aged 15, won the British Junior 50 kilograms title to claim her third belt of 2008 and other youngsters from Walkden Thai Boxing Club also excelled.

John Ward, aged 14, put in a great three rounds in his demonstration bout and his younger brother Lawrence Ward, aged 12, lost an excellent fight on points.

Ryan Hampson, aged 12, won his three round junior contest with a fine display.

The four junior fighters took part under the watchful eye of instructors Ronnie Thompson and Bill King.

Ronnie said: "For Rebecca to have won her third title of 2008 is nothing short of outstanding.

"She trains really hard and is a very respectful student with a huge amount of talent.

"She is a credit to herself as well as Walkden Thai Boxing Club.

"Myself and fellow instructor Bill King are delighted with the way the members of the junior squad performed.

"They all did well and are a credit to the effort that each and every one of them puts in on a weekly basis. Well done."
