SALFORD Ju-Jitsu Club enjoyed a 100 per cent pass rate at a recent black belt grading – and it was a real family affair.
Cliff Williams, aged 48, passed his Nidan second degree black belt while his 17-year-old son Eric and Mark Davies secured Shodan first degree black belt glory.
Davies’ 10-year-old son Jacob gained a junior black belt, as did nine-year-olds Sam Whittle and Jake Rawlinson plus 10-year-old Phoebe Rawlinson, who are all cousins.
The other black belt grading success stories were 49-year-old Richard Aldred (Yondan fourth degree), 47-year-old Irene Thwaite and 33-year-old Willis Mungai (Sandan third degree) plus nine-year-old Sam Cope (junior).
Salford Ju-Jitsu Club’s chief instructor John Greenhalgh said: "It is great to see fathers and sons passing their black belts together.
"Ju-Jitsu is a real family sport. It is a great way for family members to spend time together and having a family member learning Ju-Jitsu with you is great for motivation.
"Family members always tend to push each other to get better and better.
"And people are often keen to get their children involved in the sport as they know it is a great way to teach their kids discipline and keep them off the streets and out of trouble.
"Mark Davies has the ultimate Ju-Jitsu family. As well as his son Jacob, his daughter, his brother, his sister-in-law and his sister-in-law’s daughter are all learning Ju-Jitsu."
Greenhalgh added: "I was delighted that all 10 of our guys passed their black belt grading. That is some achievement as black belt gradings are very difficult to pass. You have to be spot on to be given the thumbs up."
