A CLUB coach is jumping for joy after her students picked up 33 medals at the North West Individual Championships in Warrington.

Salford Gymnastics Club coach Lesley Hickey said: "We entered 14 girls and I am absolutely delighted with how they fared. Following on from their success in the North West Team Championships at the end of September, the girls really excelled themselves individually at the weekend.

"Compared to other clubs, we have a very small squad. So for seven of our girls to have top three finishes overall is some achievement."

Madison Howard, aged eight, and Ellie Birkett, aged nine, were crowned overall champions. Madison came first on the beam, bars and floor and won a silver medal on the vault in the pre-novice under-eights section while Ellie was first on the vault and floor and second on the bars in the pre-novice under-nines category.
