THE City of Salford Swimming Club ended 2007 in style by winning the top club award at the Bradford Christmas Open Meet.

They retained the trophy they won four years ago by finishing 30 points ahead of a pack which boasted some of the strongest sides in Yorkshire, including Hull, Doncaster, Rotherham, Kirklees, Bradford, Skipton, Halifax and York.

And Salford’s star performer was undoubtedly Katrina Alder, who walked away with the top girl title, six gold medals, one silver medal and £240 in prize money.

Stuart Bloor, who has returned to the Salford club from Stirling University following a four-year absence, won £95 in prize money after scooping four gold medals and one silver medal.

His clubmate Daniel Phillips also won four gold medals and one silver medal.

Salford’s full list of individual medal winners were: Katrina Alder (six gold, one silver), Daniel Phillips (four gold, one silver), Stuart Bloor (four gold, one silver), Jordan Naylor (two gold), Alex Matts (one gold, three silver), Marcin Pryzinski (one gold, one silver), Elliott Hynes (one gold, one silver), Beth Marks (two silver), John Bailey (two silver), John Bailey (two silver), Rachel Boardman (one silver, two bronze), Jessica Twigg (one silver, two bronze), Danielle Naylor (one silver, one bronze), Callum Donaldson (one silver, one bronze), Oliver Prescott (one silver), Emily Bates (one silver), Becky Faulkner (one silver), James Hulse (two bronze), Hannah Armstrong (two bronze), Luke Grimshaw (one bronze), Chris Winstone (one bronze), Eve Suharwardy (one bronze) and Hannah Faulkner (one bronze).

The Salford club also won four team open gold medals and five team silver medals to take their overall medal haul to 62.
