Luke Adamson, Salford’s highly-rated young forward, believes tomorrow’s basement abattle with the Catalans could be a major turning point in the Reds season.
Adamson is backing himself and his team-mates to deliver on home soil and secure a much-needed first win of the season for Shaun McRae’s Salford side.
Adamson is adamant Salford are stronger and better equipped this term than the team who came up to Super League 12 months ago and initially struggled.
He said he and the rest of the Salford team will be going flat out for Friday night victory.
"It’s both a massive game for us and the opposition," said Adamson. "Whoever wins puts points on the board and will look to kick on. A heavy defeat at Wigan last week will have hurt the Catalans but we are just concentrating on ourselves.
"The last two games against Leeds and Bradford have been very big steps forward in the right direction.
"We feel our defence has strengthened, more planned moves are coming off and a win is surely not far off.
"Tomorrow presents us with a perfect opportunity to open our account. It has taken time for us to gel – we possibly did not take on enough Super League opposition in pre-season.
"Things were always going to take time and this season is another stepping stone for us as we look to progress as a club.
"We fully believe we will come strong very soon. Training has been going well and Malcolm Alker has put in a great deal of work with us and has covered every aspect of play.
"During our first two games, a new system we tried didn’t really suit us but in the last two we reverted back to a more familiar type of play and this has reflected in our performance.
"We competed strongly at Leeds, we did the same against Bradford – both these games could have gone either way.
"We’ve worked hard in readiness for this match and are ready to do what is expected of us."
Head coach Shaun McRae is again expected to keep faith with the squad who performed admirably against Bradford.
Big Aussie prop Ray Cashmere was hoping to return against the French on Friday but he is still hindered by a calf tear and could again miss out.
Cashmere has not played since the home defeat by Crusaders.
This will present Ryan Boyle with another opportunity and he has been impressing.
Daniel Holdsworth is expected to stay at scrum half ahead of Matty Smith.
