SALFORD City Reds look set to lose the services of two tremendous talents.

For England international scrum half Richard Myler has turned down the biggest contract offer in the club’s history and is widely reported to have been lined up to replace Barrow-bound Lee Briers at Warrington Wolves.

And Myler’s fellow young gun Jordan Turner, who has also been offered an extended deal, is rumoured to have agreed to join Hull FC at the end of the season.

But Salford coach Shaun McRae insists that he has not given up hope of keeping the duo at the Willows.

McRae, who will meet Myler early next week in a desperate last-ditch bid to try and persuade him to reconsider the club’s lucrative four-year contract offer, said: "I just hope that I can talk Richard round because I desperately want him to stay and so do the players.

"I plan to sit down with him and again make it clear we want to build a team around him and bring in more quality players. He is still our contracted player until the end of 2010 and I’ll point out to him how his formative years at the highest level have occurred while he has been playing for Salford.

"I’ve been in the position that he is in but I really don’t know at this stage what the outcome will be. I would not be doing my job, though, if I do not continually try to convince him to stay.

"I’m naturally hoping that Jordan will also stay. He’s another exciting young talent. We’re hoping he accepts our offer and the ball’s in his court."

Myler is Salford’s prized asset and director of football Steve Simms admits that, with Melbourne Storm’s Brett Finch the only quality half back currently up for grabs, trying to recruit a suitable replacement would be an arduous task.

He said: "We have made Richard a fantastic offer but, if he does go, we will have to work long and hard to replace him.

"Maybe we will have to look at Australia and see just who is available but we know there is a distinct lack of available top class talent right now. It would not be easy."

On a brighter note for Reds fans, rising second row star Luke Adamson is close to agreeing a new two-year deal.

John Wilshere is also in line for a new Reds contract while Salford are to look into signing the on-loan Darrell Goulding on a permanent deal.

McRae said: "Darrell is a very good player. He’s doing well and is enjoying himself. If we can’t sign him we could look at seeing if Wigan would extend his loan again."

Adamson is expected to return from an ankle injury when Salford bid to end a three-game losing streak against a Huddersfield Giants side that they recently defeated 24-4 tomorrow, Friday, June 26, kick-off 8pm. But Myler may join Paul White, Willie Talau, Rob Parker and Karl Fitzpatrick on the sidelines as he is struggling with a virus and a heel injury.

McRae said: "We will leave it until the last minute but Richard has played in almost every game. If he’s running fresh he will be considered but, at this stage, he is a doubt.

"Huddersfield Giants have a terrific squad with a big pack. Brett Hodgson is a sensational full back. They’ll be smarting having lost to us at their ground and with them having lost to Castleford last week.

"We expect them to be very determined to get their revenge on us.

"They have a great away record and we will have to be at our best to beat them again. But we are confident that we can do so."

McRae admits that the Reds will need to play much better with the ball than they did in their 14-12 defeat at Hull FC on Friday.

McRae said: "The positives we take from the Hull game are the effort, the grit, the steel and the determination that we showed. The things that we’ve got to work a bit harder on are execution and a little bit of intelligence. We have been doing that in training this week."
