The Wrexham-based team, last season's wooden-spooners, had conceded 72 points to Leeds and Wigan in their opening two games, but they opened their 2010 campaign with an impressive 36-16 win against a Salford side who were quite clearly second best.
Vince Mellars helped himself to a hat-trick of tries, while Frank Winterstein, Michael Witt, who booted four conversions, Jamie Thackray and Gareth Raynor all crossed to give Brian Noble his first win in charge.
The opening try arrived in the third minute following a good spell of possession.
Witt came up with high, hanging cross-field kick which was taken expertly by centre Mellars who climbed above Dean McGilvray and dropped over the line. Witt then proceeded to add the extras.
Opener
But from the re-start, and just two minutes later, Peter Lupton failed to pouch the kick and the hosts scored their opener.
The ball was quickly shipped to Dan Holdsworth, who was hugging the right touchline, to finish well in the corner. Stefan Ratchford made it 6-6 when he slotted the resulting conversion between the posts.
The Crusaders scored once more in the ninth minute with Winterstein finishing in the corner following a well-timed pass from Lupton who managed to atone for his earlier error.
Witt was off target with the conversion as he was with his next when Mellars crossed for his second in the 13th minute.
The Crusaders centre's score was a carbon copy of his first, fast hands creating a gaping hole in the Reds' defence out wide which he exploited on his way to the line.
Matty Smith knocked on when Salford broke in numbers and looked certain to score.
Cross
But he made no mistake when offered another chance to cross the whitewash in 28th minute.
A fantastic break from the lively Holdsworth created the chance and eventual try-scorer Smith was handily positioned on the inside to notch Salford's second converted score of the night.
Attacking The Willows Nightclub end in the second half it took the visitors just a minute to pull further ahead.
A series of attacks down the right were followed by a huge kick to the far corner and Mellars, who produced a huge leap above McGilvray for a second time, took the ball well before crashing over.
Witt, who tagged on the extras, got in on the act with a score of his own five minutes later following some good passing rugby, again down the Salford left.
A neat exchange of passes, the crucial one coming from Luke Dyer, allowed the scrum-half to weave his way through and stretch for the line. Another score for the visitors arrived just after the hour mark following Holdsworth's sin-binning for holding down.
The ball was worked wide and a clear numerical advantage allowed Thackray to scamper his way under the posts.
Salford, who have huge problems to address following tonight's defeat, scored a late consolation through Karl Fitzpatrick but it proved little consolation as Raynor added a seventh.

Is it time for the head coach to go?
Or is it time for the head coach to get down on the touch-line instead of watching from the stand with Steve Simms and do some real old style coaching.
To be honest I'm in shock at what I watched tonight.
Well done to Mr Brian Noble and his team they deserved the two points for sure.
The only Salford player to get any praise tonight from me was Daniel Holdsworth words fail me about the rest!
McRae needs to go.

By the looks of it the Reds are in for a very long season and on last nights woeful display in my eyes I can't see them winning for quite some time.
The only player in a Reds shirt to get credit from me was Daniel Holdsworth as for the rest of them words fail me.
Now then is it time for the head-coach to go ?

Whilst i watched this 80 mins of rubbish i had the disapointment of watching the Head training finding this amusing and something to laugh at. If this is the standard of coaching team we have at the willows there needs to be big changes before this team dwindles away for ever. Time for changes Mr Wilkinson i think ????

already the new franchise club has been forced to move grounds because of lack of support. what about home grown players which was part of the basis of awarding a franchise ( which in itself is a sick joke).
the super league create a set of rules by which the clubs are supposed to adhere and then completley ignore them.
i cannot understand for the life of me why exceptions are being made, our home grown p[layers are being denied the opportunity to progress and apart from a handull of top drawer imports the league is awash with foreign mediocrity.

If you want to talk about lack of support, look no further than that tired ground on Friday, with a paltry crowd. I hope that things domn't stay like this. Rugby League needs a vibrant team in Salford. I've seen some great players there and some great occasions, but there was nothing on Friday to indicate that Salford are heading in the right direction.
As for Crusaders, the major problem, and the reason for the move to the north, was that more investment was required. It is now starting to look like a very good move indeed, working in partnership with Wrexham FC, under the same ownership, sharing the costs and enjoying joint sponsorship.
BUT, the south of the country has not been abandoned. South Wales Scorpions have got a good squad together to compete in the next tier down, and the work at junior and schools level is by no means wasted.
Salford's apprehension about last night's game was fully justified. There is no doubt that Crusaders were the better team last night, and Brian Noble has worked wonders in turning Crusaders into a real team into a short space of time. I'm glad that I made the journey from north east Wales on Friday, and very pleased that Crusaders answered Steve Simms' pre-match remarks. Perhaps now he won't be 'a little surprised' that Brian Noble took charge of the Crusaders.
The Salford fans we spoke to were great - very welcoming. I hope the tide turns and that salford start to progress.
