SALFORD City made the long trip to high-flying Colwyn Bay on Tuesday evening only to be denied a share of the spoils by two late goals.
City matched their in-form opponents throughout, and their new strike force of Domain Rouse and John McAliskey looked mobile and inventive. It was Rouse who opened the scoring early on when he poked home Alex Mortimer’s corner. Salford keeper Andy Robertson then made a superb save to tip Anthony Sheehan’s 25 yard effort onto a post.
Colwyn equalised in the 58th minute when Eddie Jebb fired home a loose ball but City regained their lead just ten minutes later when Rouse chased Martyn Andrews’ lobbed pass before flicking the ball wide of Colwyn keeper Chris Sanna and rolling the ball into the net.
Salford defended resolutely, but three minutes from time Jebb got his second goal with a speculative 25 yard.
In the last minute, Bay’s Rob Hopley tried his luck from an angle, and the ball seemed to spin off a defender to break Salford’s hearts and deny them a deserved point.
