TWO girls from Salford had an experience that they will never forget as they did what every English football manager dreams of – got their hands on the Champions League and Premier League trophies.
Nine-year-olds Bethany McNamara from Langworthy and Cody Costin from Ordsall had their picture taken with the famous trophies while training for a Manchester United girls foundation team last week.
Both girls are big Manchester United fans. And they are still pinching themselves after their big moment at the club’s The Cliff training ground.
Bethany’s dad Darren said: "Seeing the trophies was very exciting for the girls. But, to be honest, a lot of the parents were even more excited.
"It is something that the girls will never forget. And seeing those trophies made them realise what football is all about."
Bethany and Cody have been playing for Manchester United for the past six months following successful trials with the foundation set-up. Their local club sides were Langworthy and Deans Panthers respectively.
Darren added: "The girls would love to carry on playing for Manchester United right up to women’s level.
"United recently opened the Manchester United Centre of Excellence and the coaching that the girls get is different class.
"It is the same as the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo get as all of the coaches work to a programme at United.
"It is all skill, skill, skill at United. You learn skill first before you learn anything else."
