Mixed results for United

BEECHFIELD United’s teams enjoyed a mixed bag of results in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League at the weekend.

Due to a lack of commitment and discipline, the first team produced a poor performance in their first division game at Heywood St James and were lucky to gain a 3-3 draw.

Substitute Darren Balshaw provided a superb late finish to add to man of the match John Cardall’s brace of goals.

Beechfield were also indebted to an impressive display from keeper Paul Bentley.

But, having thrashed Heywood St James 7-0 just two weeks earlier, Beechfield’s fans were expecting their team to fare much better than they did.

The second team recovered from a 2-1 deficit to record a commanding 10-4 win against Walshaw Sports A in the third division. Their goals came via Stephen Evans, James Brierley (4), Andy Traverse (2), Jack Tierney, Lewis Morrison and debut player Steven Griffiths.

The third team had several players unavailable for their fourth division trip to Wilmslow Albion reserves and they lost 3-0 despite a man of the match display from Dan Blackman.

Meanwhile, Monton Amateurs crashed out of the Lancashire Amateur Shield with a 4-1 first round defeat at Pennington and Monton’s reserve team lost 6-1 at home to East Manchester reserves in the second division.

The consolation scorers for the respective Monton teams were Ross Harford and Graham Bragg.
