Irlam and Rail side lift trophies

THE Eccles Sunday League season has come to a close with Irlam FC and Irlam Railway winning cup finals.

Irlam FC defeated Charlestown CYC 4-0 in the John Cook Premier Trophy final thanks to goals from Lathan Forrester 2, Shaun Whitehead and Matt Burke. And Irlam Railway twice came from behind in the Carr and Hume Trophy final as they edged out Chestnut Lodge 3-2 to pick up their first piece of silverware for some time.

Gary Keefe hit a hat-trick for Irlam while Mike Davis and Luke Flanagan netted for Chestnut Lodge.

Railway beat Fox and Hounds 6-1 at the semi-final stage while Chestnut Lodge overcame Parkwyddn 5-1.

In the league, Irlam FC have been confirmed as Premier Division champions for the fourth successive year. Clifton drew 2-2 with Charlestown CYC to claim the runners-up spot ahead of Salford Celtic.

GCJ United took the first division title and Queensway beat Priory Unicorn 3-2 to pip them to the runners-up spot.

DLS Coruna were crowned second division champions ahead of Brookfield Villa and Higher Irlam Social Club won their relegation play-off with Foxes, who joined Astley through the trapdoor, 4-0.

The third and fourth division champions were Chestnut Lodge and Clarendon respectively with the runners-ups being Tophouse Rangers and Weaste United.

The relegated sides in the Premier and first divisions were Weaste Hotel and Barton Town respectively.
