Winton were put to the sword as they slipped to fifth place in the table by a dominant Swinton batting performance.
Winton lost the lost and were inserted into bat and got stuck in against the Swinton attack. Rick Johnson (60) and stand-in skipper Russ Brown (28) put on 55 for the first wicket. Leon Dewitt arrived at the crease and continued his good form before being unluckily run out for a run-a-ball 38.
Brett Thompson (29) and Mike Seenan’s aggressive 60 not out were the other highlights for Winton, with 20 runs coming off the bowling off Mat Norvall, who finished with 1-94 off his 14 overs.
Winton finished with a very competitive score of 233-5 in a rain-reduced 40 overs
That was as good as it got for the Alder Forest men as local lad James Wade (92), Zimbawbean Kevin Hook (74 not out) and Australian Preston White (59 not out) all tucked into the below average bowling display by the Winton to boys to knock the score off with one down inside 35 overs.
Winton now occupy fifth place in the Manchester and District Association Premier League table. They have a couple of tough games to come, against Whalley Range and Hindley, as they try to bounce back up the table
THE second team also lost the toss and were inserted to bat by an under-strength Swinton second team.
Winton currently top the division and were looking for maximum points in their quest for the title.
A super knock of 130 not out by Brett Cox ensured that Winton could declare on 201-2 in 32 overs to give them the extra overs they might need to bowl Swinton out in order to gain maximum points, with further rain showers possible.
Cox was well supported by new signing David Wood (23) and Matty Hulse at a better than run a ball 26 not out.
It was a good job they did declare as Danny Seenan took the last wicket in the last over of the match to ensure maximum points.
He finished with outstanding figures of 6-53, and was ably supported by the rest of the Winton attack, Cox (2-18), Grundy (1-8) and Bentley (1-19). This means the second team go into the last three games in top spot but with a potentially harder run-in than those teams around them.
