It was a welcome return to winning ways on Saturday for Roe Green at home to Thornham.
Batting first in a game that was reduced to 40 overs with openers Kenyon and Hughes, getting off to a reasonable start, passing 50 before the loss of the first wicket, when Kenyon fell for 27.
Tom Hughes was timing the ball well and looked comfortable as he scored 64 and with the support of skipper Ashley Williams they got the Roe Green total up to 155-4.
A good fielding and bowling performance saw Thornham wickets tumbling regularly, though they did manage to keep up with the required run rate.
Joe Parker with 5-59 and Jimmy Vast with 4-24 did the damage, assisted in the field by skipper Williams who took four good catches.
Thornham eventually finished six runs short at 149 all out.
The second team’s game at Thornham was abandoned.
On Sunday the third XI were at home to Greenfield who won the toss and batted.
After losing an early wicket the Greenfield batsmen looked settled and were pushing the score on quite quickly until the skipper called on the services of Rick Green.
He went on to claim wickets at regular intervals and finish 6-70 as Greenfield finished on 173-9.
Green then opened the batting with Rod Prill and they put on 44 before Green was caught and another two batsmen quickly followed them back to the pavilion, Prill out for 25.
Mike Kirk steadied the ship with 31 before he missed a straight one. Roe Green looked up against it, still needing 70, until Josh Hughes – in his first game of the season – steered them home with an unbeaten 50, hitting the winning run with two balls to spare.
