Roe Green welcome Joe as season opener beckons

THE new league cricket season starts for Roe Green Cricket Club with a second team match on Saturday and a third team match the following day.

A few new players have already been attracted but the club would welcome any others interested in playing at any level, senior or junior, or anyone willing to score for senior teams.

With the departure of last year’s professional Danny Jones to local rivals Prestwich, they are also looking forward to welcoming Joe Roberts, an Australian making his first visit to this country.

Three pre-season friendlies have been played in great conditions.

Edgworth were bowled out for 100 and newcomer Phil West with an unbeaten 49 helped Roe Green home to a three-wicket win.

Nick Bridgford with 47 led the way to 136 in a Twenty20 at Urmston but the home team won with seven balls and eight wickets to spare.

In the third game, a total of 121 was not enough to beat Horwich who won by four wickets.
