A TEENAGE singing sensation will have the chance to live her dream after being crowned Salford Pop Star 2007.
Katie McAtee's dream of becoming the next Whitney came one step closer when she won the contest which was open to all Year 10 pupils in the city.
Her rendition of her idol's 'I Will Always Love You' wowed the judges, which included Galaxy radio presenter Wes Butters, and gave her the edge over the other nine finalists.
The Harrop Fold High School pupil won a whole host of goodies for her performance which was watched by hundreds at The Willows on Thursday, May 31.
Prizes included an Ipod, a week in a recording studio, a photo shoot and a website worth £2,500.
Katie, 15, of Greymor Road, Little Hulton said: "I've had private singing lessons since I was seven and I've always loved doing it.
"I know the compere at the Woolpack pub and he always gets me up singing.
"I never get nervous, I love it on stage and I love showing off.
"I love Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey and I want to be a pop star."
Galaxy DJ Wes certainly thinks Katie has what it takes to achieve her dreams.
Wes said: "Wow, what a night! I knew Katie should win when she belted out Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You and the hairs on my arms stood on end.
"This competition is set to introduce many into tomorrow's generation of popstars - mark my words!"
Kat Shore, project manager for Salford Pop Stars, said: "Salford Pop Star again highlighted the amazing talent we have within our Salford Schools.
"Katie McAtee was wonderful she produced a professional and mature performance of a classic song. She was a credit to Salford, her family and Harrop Fold High School."
