Wintry scenes in Salford as snow arrives

PartsĀ of Salford were transformed into a winter wonderland due to heavy snowfall today.

Areas such as Salford Quays, Eccles, Worsley and Swinton have all had significant snowfall since around 7am.

The icy blast created treacherous driving conditions, especially on the motorways with visibility poor.

The wintry showers look set to stay over the weekend, with temperatures of between -2 and 4C on Saturday and Sunday.

Salfordians have been taking to Twitter to discuss the snowfall. John Haselden in Salford Quays tweeted: "There's a fair bit of snow coming down in Salford Quays, clearly going to be bedlam trying to get home tonight."

Highways Agency spokesman Jason Glasson said: "I advise drivers to plan ahead before setting out. Check the Met Office weather forecast and road conditions and allow extra time if travel conditions are poor, or delay the journey if conditions are really severe."
