Business secretary Peter Mandelson has praised the development of MediaCity.
Lord Mandelson said the city was 'on the move' when he visited on a whirlwind tour of the region.
He is the second high-profile Cabinet minister to tour the city in two days - Home Secretary Alan Johnson visited Swinton earlier this week.
Lord Mandelson was given a tour of MediaCity before going to Wardley, in Swinton, to officially open a new welding school run by 'Mr Salford' John Wilkinson.
Speaking at MediaCity, he emphasised the role of regional centres outside London in repairing the economy.
He said: "I don't think it's stretching it to talk about a renaissance of regional confidence in Britain.
New confidence
"These days we are more likely to be talking about what is built and renewed; the new confidence.
"The BBC's move to the Salford Quays is an expression of that organisations' self-confidence and emblematic of the new faith in the north's future."
He added: "Salford is on the move. There is so much happening in the city and the developments will bring private investment from far and wide and it will greatly improve the city's horizons."
Lord Mandelson also paid tribute to Salford MP Hazel Blears.
He said: "All this investment would not have been possible without the hard work of the local MP, Hazel Blears and the city council."
The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, officially opened one of the UK's most advanced welding schools.
The new school, which will train more than 1,000 people a year, is being launched by Salford City Reds chairman John Wilkinson and will run alongside his equipment distribution business, Wilkinson Star.
Mr Mandelson said: "This is a model of what everybody should be doing in Salford, the north west and across the country."

Where is it going? Lets just hope that the unelected Mandleson is on the move out of government come the general election.

I seem to recall not too long ago that he was one of the Morons that said we had to vote for congestion charges.
If he really wants to help Britain he should be putting his efforts into getting us out of Europe and asking them where all our money and power has gone?

as soon as brown brought him back it firmly made my mind up never to vote for labour and their out of touch ways again!

For the sake of political clarity I should probably state that I am no fan of Mandleson.
