A Metrolink chief has written to a delayed passenger's boss apologising for him being made late for work.
Cheryl Hubbard wrote to Aidan Higgins' employers saying: "Please accept my sincere apologies for the lateness of Mr Higgins this morning. This was due to Mr Higgins being stranded on a Metrolink tram between Cornbrook and G-Mex stops.
"This was an isolated incident that could not be avoided. I will be sending Mr Higgins complimentary tickets to compensate him."
Mr Higgins, 45, from Weaste, Salford, was left stranded after taking the Eccles-line to work.
The ticket agent, who works for a concert promotion company, complained to Metrolink bosses in Manchester. He told them the 50-minute delay had ruined his perfect attendance record at work.
Aidan said: "The message made me feel like a schoolboy who was late for school. There are still lots of delays.
"I'm at my wits' end trying to get answers about what seems to be constant disruption."
The apology came after he wrote in saying: "In almost five years at the company, I have never been late once. Thanks to your bad service, I have ruined an impeccable record. I'm gutted to say the least."
A spokeswoman for Stagecoach Metrolink, which operates the tram system, said: "Our customer services team is fully trained to help and support our passengers, including where things go wrong, and we always try to help where we can.
"We are committed to delivering a reliable service to our customers. But there is no doubt Metrolink, like all public transport operators, faces a number of challenges every single day where services can be disrupted by a range of factors, from bad weather to vandalism.
"Road traffic incidents, particularly where trams share the street with other road users as is the case with the Eccles line, can also cause significant disruption for our customers.
"However, we are aware that we don't always get everything right and continually strive to improve the service we offer to our passengers."

If has Mr Higgins says the Metrolink is bad service then dont use it. (It cant be that bad if your time keeping is excellent). Try your luck on the buses and see how you fair then.

One day it will become illegal to discriminate against non-drivers when applying for work.

I think it's a great idea and should provide extra motivation for Metrolink (perhaps other PT services too) to work on time.
Naturally, break downs occur but the same can happen in a car, on foot, on a bike....

Delays and problems happen on a daily basis, the trams are crowded and finding a seat is a rare occurance.
I hope that the poor people on the Oldham loop are reading this, because this is what your stupid counsellors have in store for you. A mostly reliable train service which had lots of seats has been sacrficed for this. Just remember who it was that promoted it.

a) Delays due to adverse weather (though this should improve in the coming months)
b) New trams have less seats - meaning more people standing making it potentially harder to exit a tram. I get it from Besses to Sale every morning and it can be a bit of a nightmare with the kids on at Stretford
c) Theft of cables between GMEX and Cornbrook seems to be a recurring problem, is there no form of security that can be looked into?
d) This is one that actually benefits me on the rare occasions it happens - for example a Piccadilly Service being turned into an Altrincham one with hardly any notice, which annoys passengers
e) This routine of having about 15 inspectors at one station - it reminds me of some sort of hit squad
Failed vehicles seemed to be a problem due to brakes being affected by weather, hopefully this one will clear in the coming months. I can't really comment on the new ticket machines as I get a pass and don't use them.
For all the criticisms of Metrolink recently, I should point out on January 5th if it wasn't running I wouldn't have made it into work because all the buses were suspended that day. Sometimes it's too easy to just have a go at the service without bearing things like this in mind.

I understand there are other problems in the world, but work to alot of people, normal people, is very important. It's good to hear of people in this day and age with abit of pride and " dignity". So think before you write and post. Any job these days is something to be proud of,however big or small, that is of course, if you're not a benifit scrounger!
