Puppy mauled by dog

Six-month-old puppy Dave was subject to a vicious attack and left with extensive injuries

A DOG walker is warning others to take care after her six-month-old puppy was subject to a vicious attack.

Susan McMahon was walking her dog, Dave, in St James’ Graveyard, at the top of Murray Street, in Salford, when another dog snatched him from her hands.

She said: "As we walked up into the graveyard Dave was on his lead.

"I saw a large dog run across the path ahead of me and so I went to pick up Dave but he was ripped out of my hands.

"It was awful.

"He was squealing like mad and I was just screaming trying to get my puppy back.

"The other dog was just throwing it around tearing it to pieces."

Eventually Susan managed to get the puppy from the jaws of the other dog and fled.

"I just ran from the graveyard and all I could feel was a river of blood pouring from the puppy," she said.

"I ran home and we rushed Dave to the nearest vet that was open to try and save him."

Dave was left in a critical condition, requiring staples to his stomach and treatment for bite marks on his front legs and rear end.

And now Susan, who lives just off Bury New Road, Higher Broughton is warning other dog walkers in the area to take care.

She said: "I want to warn everyone to look out for this dog as it’s clearly dangerous.

"I tracked down the owner and they’ve now said that the dog has run away.

"We all use the graveyards to walk our dogs and all know each other.

"We use it as a chance to catch up and have a natter.

"But this dog is definitely not from round here and I’m urging people not to let their dogs off their leads under any circumstances."

Dave is now back at home with Susan and expected to make a full recovery.
