Salford Expats

ARE you a former resident of Salford who has moved abroad and who wants to get back in touch with people still living in the town? Do you know of friends or family who have moved overseas and you want to try and track them down? Well here's your chance with our new interactive map ...

In this section, we're giving an opportunity for people who were parted when locals decided to make new lives overseas to make contact once again.

If you are an ex-pat, who wants to know the whereabouts of a pal or relative, send us the details and we'll post them up here. The same is true of locals - let us know if you want to get back in touch with a local who has left these shores. You never know - they might just visit this site, read your message and you could be reunited.

Alternatively, ex-pats can write to us simply if they want to let the folks back home know what they've been up to, how life overseas is treating them, and what they miss about Salford.

All you have to do to take advantage of this service is to click here to go to our interactive map of the world , then click on the part of the map where you live. Your own pinpoint will appear which you can move to the exact location you want (use the controls on the top-right of the map to move around and to zoom in and out, right down to street level).

A form will also appear which will allow you to give your name, contact details, reason for moving and anything else you want to share with us.

Please note - this information will appear live on the site immediately and is not moderated. If you feel that somebody is abusing this map service, please click here to e-mail the web editor.

I left Salford in the early 1960s - having earlier attended Lancaster Road (or Light Oaks school) - then the De la Salle grammar school in Weaste.

I lived near the Oakwood pub at the top of Lancaster Road - & understand that the pub has now been demolished ?

Would be pleased to hear from
Salfordians who perhaps lived in that part of the world - always interested to learn about Salford City Reds and Manchester United !
Best wishes and thanks, John

I played for Salford RLFC from 1988 to 1993. I enjoyed my time there and prior to that I have some good years at Swinton Lions. Now I've moved to Switzerland since I won the Lotto in 1998. I get over when I can to see some Salford games, the stadium prospect sounds exciting, wish I was playing these days instead.
All the best.

Hi,

My dad doesn't believe it - he thinks I'm still drinking in the local when I call him, but it's true I really am here in the back of beyond - teaching English (with my Manc accent) and enjoying a good pint at 20p!
Last two weeks I earnt enough to buy 15000 of the bottles but I'm trying to take it easy - there are too many cute girls to look at.....

Awww. Come on. You're all breaking my heart... I haven't seen Salford for 48 years, 1 month, and 12 days. But who's counting?
I don't agree with Peter Allen (dec'd). I may live in Australia but I still call Salford 'Home'.
My sincere love to my hometown and 'Jesus, you poor b******s' to any exile. Oh how nice (at last) to know: I am not alone.
Strange isn't it, how those stars in the sky just won't get back to their rightful places.
Kate in Australia.

Emigrated to canada with my parents in sept 1949 ,after attending Salford Grammar for 3 years Before that ,briefly attended St Bart's. My Mother ran a ladies millinery and hosiery shop in regent Rd near the library called "Elsie's ' and I spent much time at Salford Lads' club. I've kept up my support of the Salford Reds and to a lesser extent Utd and City. Always attend a match at the Willows when I visit. Regret that few landmarks have remained but must commend those responsible for the Quays. Let's hope that it is only the start of things to come! Any contact from old acquaintances would be very welcome. E-mail: susan.vivian@sympatico.ca
