SHARKS talisman Charlie Hodgson is expected to shrug off his injury worries in time for the Guinness Premiership final against Leicester at Twickenham on May 27.

The England fly-half was moved out to the wing at one stage to avoid any further punishment after a huge hit from Wasps second row Simon Shaw left him with severely bruised ribs.

Director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre, who gave his side a break from training until Thursday, said: "After the injury he could not tackle so we put him on the wing.

"We had a fly-half in Valentin Courrent on the bench but he has had a shoulder injury all week.

"But Charlie did not want to come off the pitch anyway. He wanted to stay on and that demonstrated the attitude of the team at the moment.

"He has a big bruise on his ribs but I think he will be fit for the final."

Hodgson's never-say-die attitude typified the resolve of his side on Sunday.

Second row Jason White took his time getting up after he was clattered by prop Tim Payne and was temporarily out for the count.

Magnus Lund, just selected for England on their summer tour to Australia, was replaced with blood streaming from a head injury and centre Elvis Seveali'i hobbled off at the end having played with a damaged calf muscle.

Saint-Andre has no doubt that Lund deserves his call-up.

"I've been saying Magnus Lund is good enough for England for the last 12 months," the Frenchman said.

"He is such a good learner, you only have to ask him to do something once and he will do it.

"He varies his game very well and he has fantastic skills. He is an excellent player in the tight, he is fantastic in defence, he is good in the line-out and he can adapt his game."

Hooker Andy Titterrell, who along with second row Chris Jones will also be on the plane to Australia with England this summer, said: "The club has given us a few days off, and believe me, we need it."

Fans hoping to grab a piece of the action on May 27 will have to be quick as Sale's 15,000 ticket allocation is expected to sell out by the end of the week.
