Over a third of all grades were at A or A*, and 11.5 per cent of grades were at A*, compared to 8.5 per cent in 2010. Sixty-nine students achieved three or more grade As and 37 achieved four or more.

Haslingden High School reported better results than 2010, with most subjects seeing 100 per cent pass rates and increases in higher grade passes and overall score per entry.

The standout success story this year is Alder Grange Community and Technology School, which saw marked improvements across the board on last year’s tables.

Of the Valley’s seven secondary schools, six attained a higher average point score than the 34.9 mean for England.
