Former newsagent Mrs Joyce Pidgeon, of Plantation View, Bacup, died on Sunday, January 22, in hospital, aged 82.

Born in Rossendale and married to the late Jack, they emigrated in 1948 to South Africa, before returning in 1951 to live in Waterfoot. Joyce and Jack then moved to Saddleworth until 1982. They then bought a newsagents shop in Stacksteads, which they named ‘Joyce and Jack’s’.

Joyce also worked as a shop assistant in South Africa and as a sales rep in Saddleworth.

Her hobbies included housecraft, wildlife, dancing, walking and travelling and she was also a good cook.

She leaves son Terry and cousins Trevor and Betty. Her late husband Jack died in 2008.

The Rev D Woodall will conduct a funeral service at Burnley Crematorium at 9.20am on Friday, January 27. Family flowers only. Donations if desired for British Heart Foundation.
