Centenarian Mrs Catherine Walsh, of Ash Cottage Residential Home in Edenfield, formerly of Stacksteads, died peacefully at home on Friday, January 20, aged 103.

Born in Waterfoot, Catherine, known as Katie, moved to Stacksteads after her marriage in 1937. She was employed at various slipper factories throughout the area, retiring from Maden & Irelands. She enjoyed listening to Irish music, sewing and reading.

Widow of the late John Gordon Walsh, who died 13 years ago, she leaves daughter Joan and her husband Roy, daughter Christine and her husband Bernard, son John, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Requiem Mass was due to be held at St Joseph & St Peter’s RC, Newchurch, on Thursday, January 26, at 10am followed by interment in Bacup Cemetery officiated by Fr P Boast.

Family flowers only with donations to Rossendale Hospice if desired.
