ARE you a former resident of Rossendale who has moved abroad and who wants to get back in touch with people still living in the town? Do you know of friends or family who have moved overseas and you want to try and track them down? Well here's your chance with our new interactive map ...

In this section, we're giving an opportunity for people who were parted when locals decided to make new lives overseas to make contact once again.

If you are an ex-pat, who wants to know the whereabouts of a pal or relative, send us the details and we'll post them up here. The same is true of locals - let us know if you want to get back in touch with a local who has left these shores. You never know - they might just visit this site, read your message and you could be reunited.

Alternatively, ex-pats can write to us simply if they want to let the folks back home know what they've been up to, how life overseas is treating them, and what they miss about Rossendale.

All you have to do to take advantage of this service is to click here to go to our interactive map of the world , then click on the part of the map where you live. Your own pinpoint will appear which you can move to the exact location you want (use the controls on the top-right of the map to move around and to zoom in and out, right down to street level).

A form will also appear which will allow you to give your name, contact details, reason for moving and anything else you want to share with us.

Hello, former Thorn and Blackthorn School leaver from Bacup. Lived in Bacup all my life up until I joined the Army in 1988. I've been in the Army ever since and have never been posted back to the UK with in that time. I have spent the last 16 years on too many tours and operations to mention. But with only 6 years left in the Army its my intention to stay in Germany on completion of my colour service. So to that end if anyone reading this remembers me, or would like to get in touch please do so. It would be nice to know what's going on. HI - my name is Helen Baxter and I now live in Chicago, Illinois. USA. I was originally born in Halifax, West Yorkshire but moved to Bacup in 1974 - my father was a Bacup Fireman for many years - Kevin Baxter. I attended Britannia Primary, Whitworth High & Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar Schools. After working at ASDA Rawtenstall for a short while I left the valley in 1984 to live in Leeds & London. But the pull of the valley brought me back in 1997. I worked for P&P until the General Electric takeover in 2000 which then moved me over to the USA. I still have many friends and family in the valley and travel back as often as possible - I miss the friendly faces, the hills and the history - not to mention the pubs, Bacup Chippie, Marios, The Herbal Shop in Rawtenstall and Rossendale Groundwork walks on a Sunday! My name is Keith Thomson and I'm a former resident of the Rossendale valley, currently residing in Bangkok, Thailand where I work as a teacher. I would be interested in joining your ex-pat list in order for me to get in touch with any old friends, especially from my old school (Alder Grange secondary) which I attended from 1971 to 1976. I continued living in the area for three more years until my wanderlust began. My maiden name is Patricia Ann Crawshaw, I lived as a young child at the top of Bonfire Hill Road, Crawshawbooth. My mother's maiden name is Ellen Roscow, formerly of Pinner Cottage, Pinner Lane, Crawshawbooth. My father's name is Thomas Crawshaw, address now unknown, he recently left Isle of Harris, August 2003 and has made no contact ever since. I am very interested to hear from anyone who knows of me or either of my parents. After my father took me away from Crawshawbooth at age 6 or 7 years (he also removed my brother John at age approx 18 months), I then lived in other areas such as Stone Cote Farm near Cliviger, Burnley, then 244/246 Todmorden Road, Sharneyford, Bacup, Oxford Road and 22 Clarence Street, Burnley. Hi, I am Ian Connolly, formerly of 25 Cutler Cresent and 107 Cutler Lane, Stacksteads. I emigrated to Australia in 1967 with my Parents, Frank and Betty Connolly, and my 3 brothers, John, Les and Malcolm. Over the years I have lost touch with my relatives and friends....no excuses, just the way it is.... I have not been back since I left, but intend making the trip next year, probably in your Autumn, and hope finally to catch up with old friends and relatives. The mates I remember most would be Allan Swift (Rev Father now...) of Swifts Farm, Cutler Greens and Keith Marsden and William O'Reilly who both lived on Cutler Lane. I attended St.Josephs R.C primary school at Huttock End Lane until 1966 (where I had a great "crush" on a girl by the name of Karen Costello.....), then went to what was then called St.Ambrose Secondary Modern. I was only there for a few months prior to emigrating. I also have plenty of relatives still living in Bacup area. ian connolly now theres a name from the past nice to hear you remberered my wife karen (just jokeing) last saw her about eight year ago she was living in weir,i left the vally in 1985 went to peirth wa for a cople of months could not settle returned to london stayed fpr 5 years back to stacksteads for 12 months then on to germany for 6 years, then returned home to stacksteads booth road we now still live. while out ad about the people i regulary bump into are tony holt , paul chesworth , tom lord and a few others that dont come to mind right now , i know 1 or 2 that followed in you footsteps and went to aus Tony lord , stephen lord.that all i can think of right now all the best Phil Trickett

Hi my name is Peter Ormerod. I left the big valley in 1974 to join the Royal Navy. Big mistake, the grass is not always greener. Maybe I'm getting a little sentimental as my grandparents have recently passed away, both in their 90s and married for over 70 years, where do you find that these days? My mum and dad, God bless them, you could not wish to meet nicer people, still live in Bacup. Not sure if you want to call me an ex-pat as I only live in Scotland, the countryside is wonderful it's very much like the valley but on a larger scale. Can anyone remember the ambulance hall in Bacup? A great night out, the owner was called Pip, an old guy but he knew how to entertain, I believe he retired to Spain. It was never the same after he left. There are special people that i remember - Peter Brown, Derick De-ath, Jimmy Thomas, Howard Halstead and Susan Parker (I must have been mad to let her go). If your name is not on the list don't worry, I've got loads of people i remember and too little space to print. Anyone who sends an e-mail i will reply. Eileen and myself ran the Bluebell from 1976 to 1980, does anyone remember us (how could we be forgotten!)? On leaving the pub we then lived in Turnpike until late 1981 when we left for South Africa where we still are. We have fond memories of Rossendale and would love to hear from any of our old friends. Hi, My name is Joan Haig nee Mussett and i am living in Perth, Western Australia. My father (now deceased) came from Rawtenstall and I did not have the opportunity to meet my grandparents, Harriett Ann Mitchell and Robert Sidney Mussett (also deceased). Father's name was James William Edward Mussett and he died aged 28 in 1948. On my mother's marriage certificate the witnesses are a James Edward Mussett and Nancy Mitchell whom i presume are my great-grandparents and on grandmother's death certificate which i have managed to acquire a copy the informant is listed as F. Mitchell, cousin. I am desperately hoping that someone somewhere over there is related to me, have never seem a picture of my father or grandparents, and any help would be appreciated. Our family emigrated to Western Australia then, since when I've moved around the world (Australia, UK, France, Australia, Singapore and now Canada). I attended Sunny Bank school in Burnley; Miss Haworth of Crawshawbooth used to accompany us on the bus. My name is Allan Crankshaw and I moved to Canada in 1952. Most people I knew in Bacup have moved on. Just asking if any of your readers go back far enough to remember the dances at the "Co-op Hall". I used to dance there with a girl who lived on Gladstone Ave. Thorn Estate, her name was Marvis Wilson. Don't know if Marvis is still around Bacup, it would be nice to talk over old times if she is. Hi, my name is Thelma Hughes (nee Nixon). I was born in Rossendale general hospital in 1942. I attended Tunstead Primary School, Stacksteads, and then on to Lea Bank Secondary School, Waterfoot. My family then moved to Accrington in 1954, and I attended Hyndburn Park Secondary School, leaving in 1957. I began nursing at the then Brockhall mental hospital, Langho, Blackburn in 1957 until emigrating to Australia in 1964, where I continued my nursing at Childrens Cottages Kew, Melbourne, Victoria, and Mont Park Psychiatric Hospital. I am now living in Kilsyth, Melbourne. My father Andrew Nixon (deceased) was a shoe repairer and surgical boot maker at Brockhall, and he made me a pair of miniature clogs similar to the ones I wore as a child (Mike was asking about clogs). My mother Irene Nixon (nee Coldwell) (deceased) moved to Malta (I am not sure which year). Hello, looking for any descendants of Anthony Flynn, Stacksteads who died in 1920. Many of his children did emigrate to Lynn, Massachusetts at the turn of the 20th century but some remained in Stacksteads. The family home was on Luke St., Stacksteads. There is a link between the Rossendale Valley and Massachusetts as there were many cotton mills in MA. Most emigrants to MAssachusetts from Lancashire did work in these cotton mills as spinners, weavers, tenders, printers, etc. In fact, in the old microfilms of newspapers in MA, there articles pertaining to "News" from Lancashire.

I am looking to contact two old school friends by the names of Catherine Lawson and Catherine O'Connor. We all attended Heyes Lane Infants and Junior school in Timperley, Cheshire from 1986 until their families moved to Bacup in the early 90's.

I'm trying to trace any of the West family who lived in the valley, specifically Cloughfold, around the 1959 to 1962. I believe one of the daughters (Jean West) moved to Staghills around 1964/65.
Also I would like to contact any of the Tattersall family. To help anyone recognise this family Colin and Jack were excellent swimmers.

I read with great interest the article on Water Polo Team 1947 by RICHARD HALLINAN. I am trying to locate Jack and Colin Tattersall who were members of Bacup swimming club, and I understand played water polo about the same time the team of 1947 was playing. They also had a sister her name was Ann Tattersall. If you or your friends can help me locate Jack, Collin, or Ann please contact me.
Also if anyone can help me locate a Jean Mc Murray of Haslingdon, I believe her maiden name was West
