KARATE star Mandy Healey is feeling just champion after winning the British Karate Association’s open title.
The 15-year-old Wardle High School student saw off strong competition from 30 rivals, all of them brown belt status or above, to claim the title at Oldham Sports Centre.
Mandy won through two rounds of the Kata to qualify for the final which she then won in style.
The black belt, who is a member of the Kenyu-Kai karate squad, trains with Terry Pottage, in Failsworth, three times a week.
She said: "I have to be organised, but don’t have a problem fitting my karate in with my schoolwork. I have been doing karate for 10 years and I still love it. To win this title has made it all worthwhile."
