Tophams Tavern halted Harlequin’s winning sequence in the BKC Premier Division as they held the leaders to a 3-3 draw.
Harlequin went into the game on the back of four straight wins but, despite goals from Thomas, Roberts and Midgely, they were unable to extend that sequence as strikes from Topham’s Johnson, Gibson and Jones restricted them to a point.
Dog and Partridge missed out on a chance to close the gap on the leaders as they fell to a 5-2 home defeat to Sudden Carling.
A close first half ended 1-1, Sudden then taking the lead in the 57th minute. The match was still in the balance until the closing stages when Dog and Partridge conceded three in a 13-minute spell, replying just once as the visitors ran out comfortable winners.
Simpson, Teasdale, Mullens, Rushton and Whitworth scored for Sudden, Cigna’s brace scant consolation for the hosts.
The game between Roca Juniors and Asia was not one for the faint-hearted! The match had everything – good goals, two red cards, lots of aggression and skill and a large partisan crowd.
Choudary fired Roca ahead after 15 minutes. That was briefly cancelled out on 26 minutes when a goalmouth scramble led to an Asia equaliser through Rashid, though Mohammed restored the Roca lead almost immediately.
Goal of the game came when Roca substitute Bywood sprang the Asia defence and blasted an unstoppable 30-yard drive into the net to make it 3-1 to the home side.
Younis picked up a second yellow card minutes into the second period to make Asia’s task all the more difficult, but minutes later Crofts followed him off the pitch for a professional foul which resulted in a penalty for the visitors. Uddin converted to make it 3-2 and the rest of the game was a real treat for the spectators, Roca managing to hang on for the win.
Stonemasons earned their first win of the season with a 7-3 demolition of Wardle.
The hosts made a fine start, going three goals up before Wardle hit back with two of their own to raise hopes of a comeback. However, Stonemasons scored on the break as Wardle pushed for an equaliser and after that the result was never in doubt. A Flanagan hat-trick plus goals from Penrose, Hogg, Bell and Jones clinched it for the home side, Jones, Brierley and Lord replying for Wardle.
The other game in the Premier Division saw Weavers Arms beat Fothergill and Whittles 4-1.
Rochdale Asia Canaries stayed top of the Asia Restaurant Division One with a 5-1 win over Syke while just one point behind in second place, Hargreaves beat Tod United 2-0.
Early strugglers Sudden Carling seconds lost out 5-3 at home to Bolton County. Berkley, Shanks and Knight scored for the hosts only to be outgunned by a hat-trick from Pook and further Bolton strikes from Burns and Haycock.
Azzuri and Dusty Miller shared the spoils after a 3-3 draw, Sexton, Barlow and Tillys for Azzuri, Wild and an own goal for Dusty Miller.
Weavers’ seconds enjoyed a 5-2 win at Wardle seconds courtesy of an S Faulkner hat-trick and a brace from D Faulkner. Wardle replied with two goals from Musgrave.
In the Matthew Montgomery Division Two, Woodbank won their fourth game from five with a 5-3 success at St Albans. Two goals apiece for Ingham and Blezzard, plus one from Stokes, ensured victory for the leaders. Beardow, Berry and Curran responded for St Albans.
Pleasant kept up the pressure on Woodbank with a 3-1 win at Fothergill and Whittles seconds, a Brown brace and one from Boylan giving them their third win from four games. Ross netted for Fothergills.
Todmorden took the lead twice in their match at AFC Royton but had to settle for a 2-2 away draw. Whiteham got both goals for the visitors, Cole and Nixon for Royton.
Biggest win of the day was Castleton’s 14-1 rout of Donkey Dodgers while Syke seconds and Wardle seconds fought out a 5-5 draw.
