KEITH HILL and his squad took off to Spain this week to continue their pre-season preparations and begin life without David Perkins.
The midfielder left the club this week, opting for Colchester United over Stockport County and other League One suitors.
Perkins had a clause in his contract allowing clubs from a higher division to open talks providing they met a six-figure sum believed to be in the region of £150,000.
The club had offered Perkins a new deal on improved terms and wanted to do away with any get-out clauses. However, Perkins and his representatives were not interested – the player underlined his desire to play at a higher level and the offer was refused.
Hill has already recruited Ciaran Toner and Clark Keltie, while Barnsley man Simon Heslop has travelled with the squad this week.
LEAGUE opponents Luton Town will start the season with a 30-point deduction.
The Hatters had already been deducted 10 points by the FA for paying agents via a third party.
They face a further 20-point deduction because the club failed to satisfy the League’s insolvency rules.
