Littleborough Cricket Club will have a little piece of cricket history at their Hare Hill ground this season.

For the Central Lancashire League club’s fans will be sat on seats from Lancashire’s historic Old Trafford ground, which is currently undergoing a £32m facelift.

Milnrow Cricket Club have signed Baber Naeem as professional for the 2012 campaign.

Baber has spent the last three years at Ribblesdale League side Baxenden, winning league titles in 2009 and 2011.

Rochdale CC have beaten off competition from a number of other league clubs to sign the Sri Lankan opening batsman Malinda Warnapura.

The 32-year-old left-hander, who also bowls off spin, has play 14 test matches for his country scoring two centuries and seven half centuries.

Sunday's derby between Rochdale and Milnrow at Redbrook produced an exciting finish with the home team just edging it by two runs in a game reduced to 30 overs per side.

Rochdale had posted 137 for eight from their allocation – a decent total given the slow outfield – but an excellent opening partnership of 60 at around the asking rate between Alex Scholefield and Jon Newnham provided Milnrow with the initiative and they never looked like losing until the dying overs.

A depleted Milnrow outfit enjoyed a much-needed win in a rain-affected match against Oldham at Ladyhouse on Saturday.

The home side posted a challenging 236 and, after rain delays, the visitors were given a revised target of 141 from 23 overs.

Norden slipped out of the LCB Knockout last weekend, defeated by Bolton League champions-elect Greenmount in a semi-final tie at Brandlesholme Road.

The CLL flag-carriers elected to take first knock on a very wet wicket and soon lost Mark Lemm for eight. But Michael Price and Nick Brierley slowly but surely built the base for what could have been a good total.

Milnrow's run of poor form continued at Ladyhouse on Saturday when they lost to Clifton by 19 runs.

But, it wasn’t all doom and gloom, as 16-year-old Declan Wilkinson, who took three wickets last week against Heywood, gave added edge to the hosts’ attack, taking three for 25 from eight overs with a fine spell of controlled slow left-arm bowling.

It was a bitter-sweet weekend for Norden in the cup and league. The sweetness came on Saturday as they defeated Radcliffe to move within five points of retaining the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League title.

The bitterness came on Sunday as they slipped to defeat at the hands of Greenmount in a semi-final of the LCB Knockout.
