A FORMER Manchester United star is seeing red over the state of the roads where he lives.
Carlo Sartori claims a `mass of craters and potholes' along with a rise in speed humps, have turned many roads in Ashton-under-Lyne into obstacle courses.
He says road surfaces are so bad that in just twelve months he has twice had to have repairs carried out to the suspension and exhaust system of his car.
Now the 55-year-old ex-midfielder is fighting to clean up Tameside's highways. He has already written to the local council warning them he is preparing to challenge them in the courts, and intends to set up an action group to spearhead the battle.
Italian-born Mr Sartori, who was brought up in Collyhurst, said: "There are so many potholes and craters, not to mention speed humps.
"The council appears to waste taxpayers' money on ridiculous campaigns while evading their duty to make the roads and pavements safe for the public to use."
