Newgate in the town centre is Rochdale's crime hot spot according to a new interactive police map.
More than 40 crimes – ranging from burglary, anti-social behaviour and violence – were reported in Newgate in December.
The new online map allows the public to search for figures about the number and type of offences committed in their street.
Residents can find out about crime levels wherever they live in England and Wales by entering either a postcode or street name.
Crime is split into six categories – burglary, robbery, vehicle crime, violent crime, anti-social behaviour and other crime, which includes criminal damage, shoplifting and sex offences.
Figures show that more crimes took place in Newgate during December than any other street in Rochdale, with five incidents of violence, one burglary, eight reports of anti-social behaviour and 33 other offences recorded.
St Albans Street took second place with 10 incidents of violence amongst the recorded offences, followed by Channing Street, Brunswick Street and the section of Manchester Road running past Tesco in Marland, which was also the worst spot for anti-social behaviour.
Jeanette Staley, safer communities manager at Rochdale council said: "We welcome any initiative that provides the public with more information on crime and anti social behaviour.
"It’s also a useful tool to see what is being done about crime in your area."
GMP's Deputy Chief Constable, Simon Byrne, said: "This service allows the community to get a real insight into what types of crimes are happening on their doorsteps.
"I welcome such transparency as it also gives us an opportunity to show what strides we are making in tackling the crimes that most affect residents.
"High profile operations and a focus on neighbourhood policing are making a real difference to the area and we are determined to make it even safer with your help.
"We can all play our part in driving crime out of Greater Manchester and I hope this new service will encourage even greater cooperation between the police and the public, whether that's by residents setting up or taking part in a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, joining us a volunteer or Special Constable or even passing information to local officers or via Crimestoppers."

Just because one or two streets are named does not mean that other streets are problem-free.
Many people do not report incidents, especially relating to theft on property, because they do not think that the police will act and apprehend the suspects.
DCC Simon Byrne makes fair comment. However with the government taking 10,000 coppers off the streest in England & Wales alone, as well as adding another million to the dole queue, I doubt his plans wuill be realized
I think the figures highlight how nasty people can be, with most cases relating to ASB and violence.
That's not a problem caused by the quantity of Police or unemployed, it's a problem caused by a total lack of respect for others.
The vast majority of crime is committed by the same people re offending.
Until we have a government with the balls to lock them up, nothing will change.
How is it possible to be a ‘career criminal’?
After a recent burglary at my property the police told me that 2 known burglars had recently been released from prison and were back in the area.
Thanks a lot!
Have they got Rochdale Town Hall on this map yet for crimes against common Sense ?
Isn't Newgate directly behind.........................Rochdale Police station???
Now if we had more officers on the beat...... or perhaps more observant as they drive back to the Police station, the amount of crime in this area could be reduced!
