A man who exposed himself during a barbecue has been found guilty of indecent exposure.
Ragen Howarth, aged 41, exposed himself after drinking four litres of cider. Rochdale magistrates heard Howarth, of Bradley Smithy Close, Shawclough, also made a lewd comment and used an offensive term to one of the victims.
One of the people who saw him was disgusted by his behaviour and shouted to him 'Oi! put that party sausage away.'
Then said: "He carried on laughing. I was a bit embarrassed so I phrased it like that. I complained to police a couple of days later. "I thought 'he's done it once, he'll do it again.'"
Howarth pleaded not guilty to indecent exposure and denied using abusive language. He said he might have been urinating. He said: "I'm not intentionally going to show my thing to people."
Howarth said other people were with him, including his partner's daughter Rachel Thomas and her boyfriend Daniel Buchanan.
They told the court that Howarth had been urinating when he was told to 'put his party sausage' away.
Miss Thomas said: "He was having a wee - that was normal behaviour for Ragen."
She said: "He swears a lot, drinks, he's annoying and I moved out because of Ragen. I lived with him for two years but he's not dangerous. He's harmless."
Mr Buchanan said: "He had his penis out for a couple of minutes and he put it away."
Chairman of the bench Martyn Slater said the victims had not wavered from their stories and had presented credible evidence.
But he said Howarth had been contradictory in his evidence. He said: "You did expose your penis. "
Howarth will be sentenced on Friday April 16.

In an attempt at humour he made a lew comment in front of adults? Some people need to grow up.

What rubbish! If you were disgusted by it then you would not make a quip about it. Also, why wait a couple of days?
I'm not defending the person who did this, but the actions of the person reporting it seem odd to me. If it had happened where I was I would have told him to put it away and make him aware that I what he did was out of order. Getting the police involved seems heavy handed though. Are these the sort of crimes our police force are so good at clamping down on?

It seems that the offence took place in a back garden on private property and not in a public place such as Cronkeyshaw Common or the picnic area at Hollingworth Lake! This was the action of a drunken plonker and it should be enough that his name be mentioned in the local newspaper as punishment. A warning from the police should have sufficed instead of taking it to the magistrates court at our expense!
