A CHILLING film capturing the final moments of a young student who was murdered because she dressed as a Goth will be premiered to a worldwide television audience.
Sophie: A Dark Angel will be shown between advertisement breaks for two weeks on the global music network MTV.
The short film, an animated version of the events as they took place, pays tribute to the life of Sophie Lancaster, 20.
Sophie was murdered in a brutal gang attack as she walked through a park in Bacup, Rossendale, with her boyfriend Robert Maltby in August 2007.
The haunting film, which has the backing of Sophie's mum Sylvia Lancaster, opens with Robert and Sophie walking through Stubbylee Park.
It then shows the attack and its horrific aftermath.
The two-minute film was created by a French animator and commissioned by cosmetics firm Illamasqua, which has launched a fundraising make-up range for the Sophie Foundation.
It will be launched on Thursday, what would have been Sophie's 23rd birthday, in the gardens outside Manchester Cathedral opposite Urbis.
The film will be shown continuously on a giant projector from 7pm to 11pm.
The movie will then be launched internationally on MTV1 and MTV2. It will also be available on Youtube.
Mrs Lancaster, who has campaigned since her daughter's death about social tolerance issues, said: “The film is a chilling and dramatic reminder of how prejudice, hatred and intolerance can destroy lives.
“It has been created as a reminder to all people to stop, and think twice, before judging, insulting, abusing or attacking someone – purely based on how they look.”

Please join us as we pay our respects and remind people of the consequences of the brutal violence that should have no place in society.
RIP Sophie

I was heart broken to read of Sophies death, and have followed the new reports for sometime. Thus each time bringing back my horrific memories.
My fingers were crossed throughout the time the court cases were held, as my attackers were let off, as my case was chucked out of court after several weeks of court sessions.
I applaud this film, and I would suggest that this is shown in ALL schools, youthclubs, nightclubs and also aired on Terrestial TV.
RIP Sophie.
