ROCHDALE Council has given its backing to the Observer's Shop Local campaign.
From now on, readers will notice RMBC's crest on our distinctive Shop Local 'bag' logo in the paper, after councillors agreed to support the campaign.
Wage slips for Rochdale Council employees will feature a message, urging staff to support the campaign
Councillor Greg Couzens, cabinet member for finance, said: "We're delighted to be backing the Observer's campaign to support local retailers during the recession - especially in the run up to Christmas.
We think it's really important our own staff act as ambassadors for the campaign so are asking them to spend some of their hard-earned pay where our economy needs it most.
"What better way to remind them to support their town centre than by putting the message at the front of their mind when they're already thinking about their money."

Can we also see what the objective is going to be please. It has to be more than just increasing the foot fall in the town centre, or boosting the sales of a handfull of shops.
What is the plan?
Who owns the plan?
What will happen and when?
I want to know soon otherwise I'll go back to online, supermarkets or the neighbouring towns. My honest preference is local, but maybe with the strength of supermarkets and the internet this is just me being nostalgic.
So tell us the plan please.
