X Factor's Jamie Archer to light up Rochdale's Christmas

X FACTOR star Jamie Archer will be switching on Rochdale's Christmas lights on Thursday.

It will be the afro-haired rock singer's first public appearance following his exit from the hit ITV show on Sunday night. Also due to appear are the group Alphabeat.

The event, which starts at 6pm on The Butts, will hosted by Ditchy and Salty from the Real Radio Breakfast Show.

It will also feature appearances by Rochdale AFC manager Keith Hill and his assistant Dave Flitcroft, the cast of award winning musical 'Rent' and Fizz from the Tweenies.

Mayor Councillor Keith Swift will kick off proceedings following a 'winter wonderland' parade which starts at the top of Yorkshire Street just before 6pm.

Town centre car parks are are free after 3pm.

Hundreds of schoolchildren are taking part in the parade alongside a steel band and street entertainers and Rochdale Council is advising people to arrive early.

Councillor Andrew Abbott, chairman of Rochdale Township said: "It's going to be a great night for all the family."

A number of bars and restaurants, including Bar 5, in South Parade, The Baum, in Toad Lane and China City, in Nelson Street are also doing special food offers on the night.

I’m so glad Jamie is turning on the lights for Rochdale. He has been treated abominably by being booted out of X-Factor, he’s a brilliant singer and entertainer, Jamie deserves to make it big to spite Simon and co. All the best Jamie you are one of the great ones!!! Xx

Following the dissapointment in the last couple of years celebrities, Homer Simpson & Dora The Explora it's great to see a current celebrity do the big switch on.

I just hope people are noticing the continuing efforts to put Rochdale back on the map.

Never heard of Jamie Archer but I have never watched the X factor and can not imagine christmas lights in such a bleak setting as Rochdale in November. I am also suprised that Rochdale council has provided them.

Thats the negativity off my chest, I wish the night and Rochdale every success.

He's not even a one hit wonder, he's someone who got booted out of a talent competition. To call him a star or anything even close to that is insulting to people who've actually achieved something.

Rochdale's lights being turned on by this person? Wow! It's appears they've aimed for the stars but not even managed to get off the ground!

At least this time they have found someone that may give the people who turn out something more than someone dressed in a foam cartoon character suit!
I'm not one of the gogglebox brigade that watches the type of programme on which he has been featured however if he appeals to many and they will turn out to see him then that's what its all about.

i cant wait to see jamie archer switch on the xmas lights in rochdale town centre.... the twins should of got booted out the competition not jamie, he's a great singer and a good looking bloke i thought he definately had the Xfactor

What a load of moaning, out-of-touch, over-the-hill old farts you all are!! If you've got nothing better to do than be negative then don't bother! What have you ever done for Rochdale? Yes he was on a talent show, no he didnt win, but you're out of touch with modern pop culture if you can't recognise his popularity and above all else his talent. He was warm, affectionate towards Rochdale, sang live and sang well!!

Its the miserable negative people of Rochdale (like you lot!) along with the lazy scrounging scroats that make it rubbish. Who on earth do yout think the council could afford???!!!!

...and therein lies the problem in this town. Bunch of negative miserable people. Its a sad fact that the majority of Rochdale folk are either lazy benefit scroungers or vile moaning minnies with more negativity and bad will than Scrooge! I'm only glad I know enough people in the minority of folk in this town tio make ny time here bareable!

The event was a massive success with around 4,000 people. You lot can carry on sitting by your keyboard and moaning yourselves through your sad empty lives.

Oh on your norden high horse are we,could you have got on that stage and sang yes sang to people who did turn up,no you wouldnt have got up or even had the bottle to,this guy made the last 7 out of how many 80 thousand picked by music judges who have made millions,if it wasnt for silly irish twins and simon losing his bottle he would still be on your tv every week still.
