A SALE of sports memorabilia is set to score money for the Can You Spare A Minute? appeal.

John Swinden, of J&D Alexander the Jewellers, has a unique collection which includes a rare ‘golden’ boot signed by Sir Tom Finney and a 1966 World Cup shirt signed by the two goalscorers, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters.

Mr Swinden, whose shop is based in The Walk, is also selling a Roy Keane signed captain’s arm band, a flag signed by the Manchester United players, plus boots and a shirt signed by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Other coveted items include a shirt signed by Wayne Rooney, a limited edition Andy Warhol-styled George Best shirt and a shirt with the signatures of the Brazil squad.

For soap fans there’s also a signed Emmerdale script up for grabs.

Mr Swinden has kindly offered to donate 10 per cent of the sale to our campaign for Springhill Hospice.

Most of the collection has

been acquired at charity auctions, so the businessman’s bids have already contributed to various good causes.

By selling them on and giving some of the proceeds back, he is again making a generous and charitable donation – this time to the hospice.

Mr Swinden said: "I’ve always bought for charitable reasons. "As they are not kept in the shop, anyone interested in buying one of the items should give me a call."

As to which is the most valuable, you would have to see the pieces to appreciate them.

"The captain’s armband signed by Roy Keane is quite rare, for example, and the George Best shirt is a limited edition and the frame is in mint condition.

"But it all depends very much on people’s perceptions."

If you’re interested in any of the collection or you wish to make further inquiries call J&D Alexander the Jewellers on 01706 656021.
